Ethiopia - Visitors chose Meles Zenawi as Person of The Year
In an Internet poll* hosted by nazret.com, visitors have chosen Meles Zenawi, Prime Minister of Ethiopia, as "Person of The year" for 2007. In the first round of voting, nazret.com selected names who had the greatest impact in Ethiopia in 2007. Our selections were Professor Al Mariam, Ato Hailu Shawel, Dr. Berhanu Nega, Professor Ephraim Issac, W/t Birtukan Mideksa, P.M Meles Zenawi, and ONLF. We have selected ONLF for the nomination due to the organization's impact in 2007 as a news maker. In fact our idea for the Person of the Year was not necessarily as an award but who has made the greatest impact in the year.
We have asked for suggestions from our visitors and added new names in the second round of voting. The top three from the first round Prof. Al Mariam, Meles Zenawi and Birtukan Mideska were included along with new names including Mohamed Al-Amoudi, Haile Gebreselassie, Bulcha Demeksa, Abebech Gobena, Meseret Defar and Ethiopian Coffee Farmers, all suggested by visitors.
To give everyone one more chance for voting, we have run a final and third round of polling with the top two finishers, Meles Zenawi and Birtukan Mideska.
Visitors chose Meles Zenawi as Person of the Year after 24 hours of votes. In total 1137 votes were casted. The final votes, 53% voted for Meles Zenawi and 47% for Birtukan Mideksa.
